As well Romania is the only place in the world where a group of Orthodox monasteries with their fine exterior and interior frescoes, have been preserved and handed down from mediaeval times, and because of their uniqueness and artistic value, were added in 1993 to UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List.
The country is divided into four geographical areas: Transylvania, Moldavia, Walachia and Dobrogea. Transylvania, "Land beyond the Forest", is known for its numerous medieval towns, but also modern cities, spas, quaint villages, vineyards and a wealth of historic attractions.
